Chandler Basha offensive lineman Roman DeWys, who had only two Division I football offers, said he committed on Monday to Arizona State.
DeWys, who is 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, is new coach Herm Edwards’ third overall 2019 commit, and first from Arizona. The other two are out-of-state quarterbacks: Ethan Long from Oregon and Joey Yellen from California.
“I’m fired up,” DeWys said. “ASU has been a dream school of mine ever since I was a little kid and being my first offer made it all that more special to me.”
DeWys was offered last week.
“They liked I was athletic, very aggressive, tough, and talented at their camps,” DeWys said. “They’re recruiting me at every position (on the offensive line).
“I’m big enough to play tackle and can fill in at guard.”
DeWys said his only other offer was from Colorado State.
He said ASU had him on its radar when Todd Graham was head coach last year when DeWys attended a camp.
New Basha coach Chris McDonald said that DeWys had an impressive spring.
“He can be a big-time talent,” McDonald said. “Has all of the measurables.”
DeWys will be joining fellow Basha product quarterback Ryan Kelley on ASU’s roster. Kelley will be a redshirt freshman this fall.
