Rhode Island’s House Finance Committee approved its version of the state budget late Friday night.
The $9.5 billion package includes money to continue phasing out the Vehicle Excise Tax. It also approves legal sports betting at the Twin River Casino.
The House budget includes a bond question that seeks $250 million to replace aging schools in the state.
The budget restores several cuts Governor Gina Raimondo made to social services programs while getting rid of her cigarette tax hike.
It also eliminates the governor’s proposed expansion of medical marijuana dispensaries.
The full House is slated to vote on the budget next Friday.
